Texas Longhorns reportedly working on five-star flips from Texas A&M and Florida commits

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are doing some incredible work on the 2024 recruiting trail.

Their last commitment was potentially their biggest. Last week, Ryan Wingo, 5-star wide receiver from St. Louis, Missouri, committed to the Longhorns. Wingo is the No. 2 wideout in the 2024 class and the No. 5 overall player nationally, according to 247Sports.

Wingo is the crown jewel of Sarkisian's class so far, but he's far from the only elite commit for the Longhorns. He joined 5-star EDGE rusher Colin Simmons and 5-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker on the board for Texas.

That is all exciting news for Texas fans, but there's potentially even more good news on the horizon. At the very least, it's being reported that the Longhorns are still eying two big-time recruits despite their current commitments to other programs.

Dominick McKinley is a 5-star defensive tackle from Lafayette, Louisiana. He's been committed to Texas A&M since early September, and per Josh Newberg on On3, the Longhorns are still lying in wait.

“Dom McKinley has been in contact lightly with Texas in recent weeks. He actually reached out to Texas last week just via text. So the communication is still there and as long as that family and the kid are communicating with Texas, I think Texas is sitting back and they’re going to be in position to make a move there if Texas A&M struggles at the end of this season and there’s more cold feet in that recruiting class and those questions really get ramped up about the future of Jimbo Fisher in College Station. I think at that point in time, if that transpires then I think Texas will be right there in position to make a move for McKinley," Newberg said.

As if that's not enough, another On3 recruiting analyst, Gerry Hamilton, believes the Longhorns are still in the running for 5-star Florida safety commit Xavier Filsaime.

“He lives in the state of Texas, his father is in McKinney. And while his mother lives in Orlando, here’s the thing: He has really started talking to Texas a lot,” Hamilton told On3. “He’s looking for that opportunity to be an impact safety. He’s scheduled to be at USC this weekend, we’ll see if he makes that trip. I think he will show up on Texas’ campus before he graduates high school in December and signs on the 20th. I think Texas has a shot with Filsaime, we’ll see if Florida can hold them off.”

Sarkisian's class is already ranked No. 13 in the nation. If the Longhorns can bring in two more 5-stars before all is said and done, an already bright future will be looking even better in Austin.
