Texas Loses Another Coach to the NFL

Texas' coaching staff will look quite different this upcoming season.

The first domino fell when safeties coach Blake Gideon left the program to accept a defensive coordinator role with Georgia Tech. In the days following, beloved running backs coach Tashard Choice was poached to the NFL by the Detroit Lions.

On Monday, the Longhorns lost another key assistant on the defensive side of the ball. Rivals' Anwar Richardson reported that Texas' defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach Terry Joseph will join the New Orleans Saints coaching staff.

Shortly after Gideon's departure, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian tasked Joseph with taking over the safeties position on top of his current role. Unfortunately the expanded role and promotion was not enough to retain him.

Joseph has been on Sarkisian's staff at Texas since 2021. The Longhorns secondary had a year to remember in 2024, concluding the season with the No. 7 pass defense in the country (No. 1 in the SEC).

Prior to Texas, Joseph coached at LSU. He served as a key recruiter for the Longhorns throughout the state of Louisiana and it will certainly be tough to fill his shoes.
