In order to compete at the highest level, college football programs must take advantage of the transfer portal.
Alongside increased playing time, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) has become a primary reason thousands of players choose to enter the transfer portal each year. Some find success at their new schools while others do not.
Texas has landed several key players out of the portal over the last few years including quarterback Quinn Ewers, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, safety Andrew Mukuba, wide receiver Matthew Golden, pass rusher Trey Moore and wide receiver Isaiah Bond among others.
The Longhorns once again took advantage of the transfer portal this offseason by landing several immediate impact players at positions of need. The biggest addition is former Cal tight end Jack Endries.
Not only did Texas desperately need experience and depth at the position following Gunnar Helm's departure to the NFL, Endries happens to be one of the top tight ends in the nation. PFF ranks Endries the No. 2 returning tight end in college football behind only Vanderbilts' Eli Stowers.
On Thursday, PFF revealed its 10 impact players to know from the transfer portal this offseason and Endries was the only tight end on the list.
"His 1,030 receiving yards since 2023 rank sixth at the position and first among returning tight ends who have played for a Power Four school during that span," Chadwick said. "Endries has strong hands for the position, dropping only one pass in 2024 while catching nine of his 12 contested targets."
Will Endries become quarterback Arch Manning's favorite target this season? We'll find out in a few short months.
