Texas Predicted to Land Houston Transfer WR Matthew Golden

Houston Cougars receiver Matthew Golden announced on social media Tuesday at 4:22 p.m. CT that he's officially entered the transfer portal.

Seven minutes later at 4:29 p.m. CT, 247Sports director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong submitted the first of two predictions from the website that had the Texas Longhorns landing a commitment from Golden in the portal.

Good timing? You can say that.

Golden's announcement combined with a notable but far-from-unofficial crystal ball prediction quickly stirred up buzz for Texas fans on social media. Whether it was perfect timing or not, Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue tweeted out the classic eyeballs emoji shortly after the news broke, which is often a way of indicating that something could be in the works. Maybe he knows something we don't or is just teasing fans during all the speculation.

But if the speculation is true, the Longhorns could be on the cusp of getting one of the portal's top receivers. Golden has posted 76 catches for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns in his two-year collegiate career. The Houston native has also returned 14 kickoffs for 437 yards and two more scores.

In Texas' narrow 31-24 win over Houston on Oct. 21, Golden helped bring the Cougars back from a 21-0 deficit to tie the game in the second half before finishing with seven catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

The Longhorns had reportedly been pursuing two transfer receivers in South Carolina's Antwane "Juice" Wells and Purdue's Deion Burks. However, Wells' visit to Austin was reportedly called off and Banks committed to the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday.

There will still need to be some additional recruiting info before the Golden-to-Texas buzz can became more real. But given the events of the past few days it's not crazy to think that he could end up a Longhorn.
