Texas QB Arch Manning Makes History on Saturday

Arch Manning and the No. 7 Texas Longhorns didn't open the 2025 college football season the way they had hoped for, falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 14-7. Manning couldn't find any sort of rhythm, throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

But the Longhorns had a chance to turn things around in Week 2, hosting the San Jose State Spartans at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. And it didn't take long for Manning to show why he was the preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

With 2:52 remaining in the first quarter, Manning hit wide receiver Parker Livingstone for an 83-yard touchdown, marking the Longhorns' first of the day.

According to the Texas Senior Associate Athletics Director John Bianco, the 83-yard score marks a career-long for both Manning and Livingstone. Not only that, but it also marks the 13th-longest passing play in Texas history.

Manning’s touchdown to Livingstone was the longest passing score for the Longhorns since 2017, when Sam Ehlinger connected with John Burt for a 90-yard touchdown in a 13-10 loss to Oklahoma State.

While Manning's 83-yard pass was impressive, it still falls well short of the program record for longest passing play. That goes to Major Applewhite, who hit Wayne McGarity for a 97-yard score during the 1998 Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma.

Following the San Jose State game, Manning and Texas will stay in Austin to host UTEP in Week 3.
