After exiting No. 24 Texas Tech’s season opener early with a leg injury, quarterback Behren Morton is expected to start against Kent State, per ESPN. Morton’s availability had been in question after he went down in the first half of the Red Raiders’ 67-7 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but the latest update is an encouraging sign for Tech fans.

Morton is a key piece for a Texas Tech squad coming off an 8-5 finish in 2023 and looking to contend for a Big 12 title this fall. In limited action, he completed 80% of his passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing sharp efficiency before the injury.

The team will take on Kent State, a program that failed to win a single game last season, but is coming off a win over Merrimack in the season opener.

While the Golden Flashes remain heavy underdogs heading into Saturday’s matchup in Lubbock, the Red Raiders will look to use this game as a tune-up before diving into a more challenging stretch of the non-conference slate.

After facing Kent State, the Red Raiders will wrap up non-conference play against Oregon State before opening Big 12 action with a Week 4 showdown against the No. 25 Utah Utes.
