The Florida Gators are in another season of transition after firing head coach Billy Napier in October after a 23-21 homecoming game win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It was a necessary step for the future of the program, as they weren't going anywhere.
After flirting heavily with new head coach Lane Kiffin, the Gators landed on Jon Sumrall, and they couldn't have been more right. He's brought a sense of direction, leadership and energy to the program that they desperately needed, and it's making a big difference.
If you've been paying attention to the Gators in terms of recruiting, they are doing a lot better in getting the top recruits to seriously consider coming to Gainesville. Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller has an expert prediction to commit to the Gators and it would be huge for them to land the nation's top interior player.
It isn't just him who is getting excited about Sumrall's program. Four-star offensive lineman Sean Tatum is as well, and his comments speak wonders about where things are at with recruiting.
"The energy has flipped a 180. The new staff is better than the old staff, and no disrespect of course, but ask any recruit. They've seen the energy is electric."
That's a huge thing for the Gators. Recruiting has lagged behind their biggest rivals in the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers, but the tide is turning. It's one thing to have an electric energy, but another to keep it up. If they can do that, the Gators are going to be in great shape.
