A couple of years ago it may have seemed odd to highlight a player as a possible transfer candidate, but in 2026 it is just a sign of the times. This season I will highlight young players outside of the P4 whose performance on the field will catch the attention of the elite.

WR Brooks Davis (Montana)

  • Redshirt Sophomore
  • 6-foot-0, 180-pounds
  • Brentwood, CA

The skinny: Considering Davis didn’t start playing football until his junior year in high school, his trajectory is currently off-the-charts. He redshirted in 2024 before bursting onto the scene during his redshirt freshman season. A Jerry Rice Award finalist, given to the top FCS freshman in the country, Davis finished with 54 receptions for 698 yards and five touchdowns.

While 2025 was impressive, Davis’s production through only six games this season is bound to catch the attention of every FBS coaching staff. He currently leads the nation with 53 receptions and 772 yards and ranks second with six touchdowns. Over his last five games, he has consistently dominated, recording at least eight receptions and 101 yards in each matchup.

With this being only his fifth season playing football, his upside over the next few years is immense. The only remaining question is whether he will continue his career at Montana in 2027 or jump to an FBS program via the portal.
