'They don't have a lot of wins to brag about' - Steve Spurrier shows he still has his fastball with jab at SEC football program

This fall will mark a decade since Steve Spurrier last coached a college football game.

At one time, Spurrier was regarded as the best coach in the sport, thanks to his six SEC Championships and the national championship he won at Florida in 1996.

Spurrier's quick wit was also long viewed as the best in the sport (just ask Tennessee Vols fans and Georgia Bulldogs fans).

The head ball coach turned 80 earlier this year, but the quick wit hasn't disappeared. Spurrier showed he still has his fastball this week with a quick-witted jab at the Kentucky Wildcats during an appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast

Here's the full exchange between Spurrier and host Pat Dooley.

Spurrier: "We go to the head coaches meetings and I see a bunch of guys who play golf -- Johnny Majors and those guys. I said, 'How come you didn't play in the sports writers' golf event?' [They said], 'You don't play golf during football season'. I said, 'Well nobody told me that, I'm not worried about that.'"

Dooley: "I don't think that was the problem."

Spurrier: "They didn't want fans to think they were playing golf the day before."

Dooley: "That's what they were afraid of, that they'll get a picture."

Spurrier: "Yeah, they get on (Auburn coach) Hugh Freeze a little bit."

Dooley: "They do."

Spurrier: "He's supposedly played 20 times in the last 35 days or something."

Dooley: "Kentucky fans are pointing out that their coach doesn't play golf."

Spurrier: "Kentucky?!?! Well they don't have a lot of wins to brag about right now."

Perfect setup by Dooley and perfect execution by Spurrier.

Regardless of who you cheer for in the SEC, we're all lucky that Spurrier is still around dropping one-liners and classic stories.
