Tim Tebow Names College Football Team That's 'For Real'

The Georgia Bulldogs' 2025 college football season began with a dominant performance as the now No. 4-ranked team defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 45-7.

The Bulldogs have established themselves as one of the top programs since Kirby Smart became head coach in 2016. Under his leadership, they have claimed two national championships in 2021 and 2022. However, they have not won a College Football Playoff game since their victory in 2022, including a 23-10 quarterfinal loss last season to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl.

As the season unfolds, some uncertainty surrounds Georgia. However, analyst Tim Tebow from "SEC Nation" believes the Bulldogs are the real deal.

"This Georgia team is for real," Tebow said. "I loved how Gunner played [Stockton] with his arms, with his legs. They also have new weapons at receiver. This is a Georgia team that people are thinking might not be as good, well, you need to requestion that because this team is for real."

Paul Finebaum Has Doubts About Bulldogs

One of the people who hasn't been high on Georgia this offseason is Tebow's co-worker on "SEC Nation," Paul Finebaum. The SEC Network analyst revealed this offseason that he doesn't have a great feeling about the Bulldogs.

“I feel good about Georgia, not great,” Finebaum previously said. “When I say not great, that means I’m not as high on Georgia, nor is anyone else, for that matter, as they’ve been for about six years now. When they’ve literally had so many amazing players.“

Gunner Stockton Era Begins Strong in Athens

A key question entering the season was the performance of Stockton. He had only made one career start, which took place last year against Notre Dame after starting quarterback Carson Beck was injured during the SEC Championship Game.

In his second career start, he passed for 190 yards and two touchdowns, completing 14-of-24 attempts. He also led the team in rushing, gaining 73 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 7.3 yards per carry. The defense was strong once again, holding Marshall to 207 yards of total offense, including just 78 rushing yards at an average of 2.5 yards per carry.

Georgia’s Path to Prove Itself This Season

The Bulldogs have the third-best odds of winning the national championship at +750. The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 2 Penn State Nittany Lions are tied for first at +600.

Georgia’s Week 1 rout showed flashes of the dominant program Smart has built, but tougher challenges are coming. With SEC play looming and national title expectations once again sky-high, the Bulldogs will have plenty of chances to prove Tebow right, and to silence Finebaum’s doubts.

The Bulldogs have another non-conference home game Saturday against Austin Peay with kickoff scheduled for 2:28 p.m. ET.
