Top Transfer QB Predicted To Sign With Rising ACC Program

One of the top available spring transfer players, former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli is projected to sign with a rising ACC program.

Angeli entered the transfer portal on April 17 after reportedly losing out on the starting role left by NFL-bound Riley Leonard. According to 247Sports, Angeli ranks as the second-best available quarterback in the 2025 transfer cycle.

After signing with Notre Dame as a three-star recruit out of Oradell, New Jersey, in the class of 2022, Angeli was buried on the depth chart for most of his career with the Fighting Irish.

However, he received the most significant chance of his career during the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl last season and did not disappoint.

Leonard suffered a blow to the head late in the first half, prompting an unexpected appearance for Angeli. Penn State held a 10-0 lead and the Irish were in danger of giving the Nittany Lions' offense another chance at points before halftime.

Angeli answered by completing 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards, including an improbable 14-yard completion on third-down, setting up a made field goal. While Leonard would return and lead Notre Dame to a 3-point win, Angeli's efforts painted a bright picture for the future at the position.

Freshman CJ Carr and junior Kenny Minchey seemingly did enough to pass Angeli within Notre Dame's quarterback competition this spring. And there is a new favorite to land Angeli in the transfer portal.

According to Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Syracuse is expected to sign the redshirt junior ahead of the 2025 season.

First-year head coach Fran Brown and the Orange posted a 10-3 record with a bowl win in 2024. A large part of Syracuse' success was due, in part, to the nation's top passing offense behind quarterback Kyle McCord, who is off to the NFL Draft.

Angeli (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) completed 72.5% of his passes for 772 yards with 10 touchdowns to one interception in 21 games with the Irish.

His best performance came as a sophomore in the Sun Bowl against Oregon State. Angeli completed 15-of-19 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns, leading Notre Dame to a 40-8 victory.

Angeli would be the favorite to take the helm of the Syracuse offense if the projection holds true. The spring window will close on April 25.
