After their first round ouster from the College Football Playoff, the Oklahoma Sooners are starting to see players hit the transfer portal. And on Wednesday it was first reported from ESPN’s Pete Thamel that quarterback Michael Hawkins and cornerback Maliek Hawkins were both planning to leave Norman and enter the transfer portal.

Then, the two brothers confirmed the news on social media, with Michael taking to Instagram and Maliek sharing on X. Here are each of their posts.

Michael was a Top 10 dual-threat quarterback and a four-star prospect coming out of Emerson High School in Dallas, Texas. Hawkins only played in two games this season after appearing in seven games in 2024.

Meantime, Maliek just wrapped up his freshman season after enrolling early in January 2025. He was a four-star prospect by Rivals and a three-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and On3, along with being touted as the No. 31 cornerback prospect according to Rivals, No. 93 by 247Sports, No. 97 by On3 and No. 99 by ESPN. In 2024 as a senior, he helped Emerson High School to a Class 5A Division II playoffs appearance.

The Oklahoma Sooners finished their 2025 season with a 10-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance, their first under head coach Brent Venables. But the Sooners lost at home 34-24 to Alabama, a game in which OU blew a 17-0 lead.

In Norman, the big question is whether or not John Mateer returns for the 2026 season. Mateer is a redshirt junior with one year of eligibility remaining.
