Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson is finally in a spot to compete for the starting job under center.

Simpson has spent the last three seasons as a backup, but was named the starting quarterback after spring practice. He was invited to the Manning Passing Academy, which he said was on his "bucket list," per Roll Tide Wire's Steve Holley.

The quarterback competition in Tuscaloosa was between Simpson, Keelon Russell, and Austin Mack. Simpson has played in 16 games for Alabama from 2022-24, while Mack has played in one game.

Russell is the only one of the three with no game experience, coming in from the 2025 class as a former five-star recruit.

"This was on my bucket list," Simpson said. "One, being able to represent the University of Alabama here at this prestigious camp has always been a dream of mine. I talked to Peyton and Eli and Archie just about some stuff that they've dealt with, the advice they would give me. ...I really appreciate the invite."

The Alabama gunslinger talked about how last season went as well. Head coach Kalen DeBoer led the Crimson Tide to a 9-4 record, marking the first time the team had won nine games since 1993.

Simpson explained how hard the team has worked this offseason and talked about how the Alabama standard was not present last season.

Things have been going well for Alabama in recruiting, with another five-star committing to the Crimson Tide on Sunday. Five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin chose Alabama after receiving a prediction to land with the team on Saturday.

Simpson and Alabama face the Florida State Seminoles to open the 2025 season on August 30. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
