His size at 6-foot-6 and 263 pounds, combined with his agility, made him stand out during practice sessions. Matavao demonstrated proficiency in both blocking and receiving, with particular praise for his route running and catch radius from reporters.
Matavao’s hands were highlighted in particular, catching everything thrown his way, including challenging sideline catches. His ability to create separation with his size was noted, drawing comparisons to NFL tight ends like Mark Andrews and George Kittle.
While his blocking technique was seen as an area for growth, his sheer size and effort were commendable, showing promise for development at the next level.
Over four seasons, including two at Oregon before transferring, Matavao played in 50 games, starting 22, with 74 receptions for 998 yards and six touchdowns.

His final season at UCLA was his most productive, where he caught 41 passes for 506 yards and two touchdowns, earning him Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors.
There were times when he was the most productive receiver in games for the Bruins and certainly showed his development from the start of his collegiate career.
