UNC lands Three-Star Offensive Lineman Commit

Now, the New Jersey native will join Bill Belichick’s program in Chapel Hill to learn from one of the most historic head coaches in all of football. 

Alvarez Is a Two-Sport Athlete 

Alvarez stands at 6-foot-4, weighing 285 pounds, and is considered a three-star recruit by many recruiting sites. The high school senior isn’t just a football player, as he’ll also be wrestling at UNC along with his career on the gridiron. 

Alvarez is one of several players brought in by Belichick to help improve the team’s interior presence. Of just new signees alone, nine of the 32 are offensive linemen, and an additional four offensive linemen are joining by way of the transfer portal. After going just 4-8 last season with a paltry offense, Belichick has clearly put an emphasis on improving the trenches and getting stronger up front. 

Alvarez is capable of playing either center or guard and is sure to develop nicely under one of the brightest minds in football history. The Tar Heels are looking for better protection up front going forward after struggling in that aspect last season, and Alvarez figures to make an impact. 

Last season, UNC quarterbacks were sacked 22 times for a loss of 123 yards. With a total makeover expected to happen up front, Alvarez will look to play a role in bringing that number down if he is able to work his way into the regular rotation. 

UNC Looking To Improve Next Season

As a team, Belichick has had to essentially rebuild the team from scratch in his second season leading the program. The Tar Heels lost several key pieces on both sides of the ball from the 2025 season and, as such, have brought in numerous additions to help address those losses. 

Belichick’s first go-around with the transfer portal came late in the process, after he was hired. With a full offseason under his belt, one can safely believe that the Tar Heels will be in a better place next season compared to last.
