University of Miami dominates producing pros at one position

In the landscape of college football few teams have produced more talent than the University of Miami. They're fourth in the nation in players drafted since 2000 with 119 and third in first round picks with 30, only one behind Ohio State and Alabama. Names like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Devin Hester, Frank Gore and Michael Irvin just begin to the paint the picture of the legends that have played for Miami. 

Recently ESPN put together a list of 10 schools that have produced the most pro players for each positional group in the NFL. Factors from their college production as well as their NFL production were used to create the list and while Miami saw its name in the top 10 of a few lists (RB's, DB's, LB's), it took first place in one, in a landslide.

Tight Ends. 

No program comes close to Miami when it comes to the tight end position. Since 1998, Miami has had 15 tight ends drafted. The Hurricanes have had a future pro on their roster every year since then and have only had one year where one wasn't drafted (2007). 

Some of the most notable names include Jeremy Shockey, Jimmy Graham, Greg Olsen, Bubba Franks and David Njoku. Those five alone have combined for 2,470 receptions, 233 touchdowns and 28,061 receiving yards. Both Greg Olsen and Jimmy Graham rank in the top 10 all-time in yards, receptions and TD's at the position.

Since being drafted in 2017, Njoku ranks in the top 20 (17th) in both receiving yards and TD's. In that same timeframe, Graham is tied for seventh with 26 TD's. Miami currently has four tight ends in the league in Brevin Jordan, Njoku, Graham and rookie Will Mallory. 

Olsen, Graham and Shockey are widely regarded as top 25 at their position all-time and have a chance to potentially, one day, be in the Hall of Fame. Their success, as well as others, as Hurricanes and in the pros, cements Miami's place as the true Tight End U.
