The Ohio State Buckeyes passed their latest test against the Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium in Seattle with flying colors as they shut down a high octane Jedd Fisch offense en route to a 24-6 road win.
The Huskies' only points on the day came from a pair of Grady Gross field goals as the Buckeyes' Matt Patricia led defense held QB Demond Williams Jr. to less than 200 yards passing and running back Jonah Coleman to 70 yards
The Buckeyes' win included six players with three tackles on more on the day including an unsung hero on defense who earned praise from the Buckeyes' head coach Ryan Day.
Day spotlighted the growth and maturity process of defensive back Davison Igbinosun, who has been a vital contributor to one of the stingiest defenses in the country.
"There's a lot of growth," Day said. "Davison has always brought an edge to him. That's why I love having IGB around me," he added according to Chase Brown on X.
"He just brings great energy to the table. There's an edginess, a toughness, a competitiveness, a grittiness, and he's aggressive."
Fans gave Igbinosun credit for his outstanding play as of late as he has teamed up with Caleb Downs and others to make the Buckeyes' back line ferocious.
"So pleasantly surprised with how he's been playing and avoiding penalties this year," one fan said. "He absolutely locked down (Denzel) Boston (of Washington) this week."
Another called Igbinosun the most physical player nationwide.
"IGB is the definition of a silver bullet," they said. "The most physical corner in the country is a Buckeye."
"Underrated," another fan said. "If he stays away from penalties he won't be overlooked when the draft comes."
The Buckeyes have a unique challenge up next with Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Drake Lindsey preparing to face coach Day's team.
Lindsey brings 958 passing yards to the table as PJ Fleck's go-to guy in offensive coordinator Greg Harbaugh Jr.'s system.
Harbaugh Jr., who is not related to Jim or John Harbaugh, has led the Gophers to 20-plus point outings in all four games so far including a 66-point outburst against Northwestern State in Week 2.
The Gophers have everything to gain and not a whole lot to lose against the Buckeyes this weekend. Igbinosun and the rest of Ohio State's defense must play sound football with the upset minded Gophers hoping to score a shocking upset at Ohio Stadium.
