Urban Meyer predicts Tennessee to go under 8.5 win total in 2025

Tennessee is projected to have a much different season post-spring than they did pre-spring, considering what happened last month. That has Urban Meyer taking the under on the Volunteers for now, going into 2025.

Meyer, along with Rob Stone, looked at the Vols’ win total of 8.5 during ‘The Triple Option’ this week. That started with a neutral-site game against Syracuse in Atlanta, which they’re a 12.5-point favorite in as of now per the early line from Vegas. The duo had Tennessee winning that game. That made Tennessee 2-0 after the following weekend with a second win against East Tennessee State in Neyland.

“I’d go advantage Tennessee but that’s going to be a tough game. That’s going to be a tough one,” Meyer said. “I mean, on paper, Tennessee has got better players. That’s a fact. That’s the way it is.”

The SEC, though, is where Tennessee starts to take some losses. Meyer had their first defeat coming when Georgia comes to Rocky Top in mid-September and another coming to Alabama in Tuscaloosa in mid-October.

“They lose,” Meyer said of their chances against the Bulldogs

“No,” Meyer said as well about the game against ‘Bama.

There are then four conference games from October through the second-to-last weekend in November that Meyer thinks the Vols split at 2-2. He paired Arkansas and a road game at Kentucky together in October. Then he had Oklahoma and a road game at Florida in November, with some combination of two wins and two losses for the Vols over those four.

“I’m going to give them that one because I’m going to say they’ll split Arkansas-Kentucky,” said Meyer.

“They’ll split Oklahoma-Florida. So, let’s give them one more win,” Meyer said. “That’s six.”

Going into the final weekend of the fall, Meyer has Tennessee at 7-4. He then has them finishing at 8-4, despite giving their rival credit, with a final win when Vanderbilt comes to Knoxville on November 29th.

“I’ll tell you what. That’s another one,” Meyer said of their finale against Vandy. “They’ve got a heck of a coaching staff down there. That’s a rivalry game.”

Again, a lot has changed about the trajectory of this upcoming season for Tennessee with the spring window of the transfer portal. Meyer is now going with a slight under for the Volunteers’ win total because of that with 8-4 (4-4 SEC), having them just below that present total set at 8.5.

“So, I think they get eight,” Meyer said. “I’ll tell you what. I’m going to say they got screwed again.”
