The Tennessee Vols will travel to Gainesville late in the 2025 season for an important matchup against the Florida Gators.
If Tennessee is going to return to the College Football Playoff, they'll have to win at least one of the following games: at home against Georgia, at Alabama, or at Florida.
The Vols haven't beaten the Bulldogs since 2016, and they haven't won on the road against Alabama or Florida since 2003.
If Tennessee loses to Georgia and Alabama, but wins the rest of the games on their schedule, it would set up a trip to the Swamp in late November with a playoff spot on the line for the Vols (UT finishes the regular season with a game at home against Vanderbilt the following week).
Former Gators head coach Urban Meyer, who never lost to Tennessee (at home or on the road) during his time in Gainesville, predicted this week on The Triple Option that Florida will beat Tennessee in Gainesville in late November, keeping their home winning streak against the Vols alive.
Meyer, in general, is a big believer in Florida head coach Billy Napier and the Gators in 2025.
"Somehow, Coach Napier, the staff and the leaders on that team ignored the noise and went out and played their best football at the end of the season," said Meyer. "I think there’s something there right now.”
Picking the Gators to beat the Vols in the Swamp isn't exactly a bold prediction.
Eventually, though, Tennessee will win again in Gainesville. And I'm sure the message Josh Heupel sends to his team in late November will be, "Why not this year?"
