Fox Sports analyst Urban Meyer discussed the current state of the College Football Playoff alongside Rob Stone on the "Triple Option Podcast."
While the two were sharing their predictions for the matchups in the semifinal stage, Texas versus Ohio State and Notre Dame versus Penn State, Meyer gave his thoughts on the national championship.
The former Ohio State head coach is confident in the Buckeyes. He believes Ohio State has the best roster in college football and if they play up to their standard, the Buckeyes will win the national title.
While he thinks their matchup against the Longhorns will be a back-and-forth battle, he believes they have everything it takes to "lift the gold trophy."
"If team A shows up, this will be a wrap," Meyer said. "Ohio State will lift the gold trophy. If the best roster in the country, plays like the best roster in the country, they’ll be national champs in a few weeks… Texas’ strength is that defensive line. The best defensive line in college football… That’s the reason I think this will be a close game."
Ohio State will face Texas in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Ohio State currently stands at 12-2 on the season after dominating its first two opponents in the College Football Playoff.
In the first round, the Buckeyes defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 42-17. Ohio State then went on to defeat the Oregon Ducks 41-21 in the quarterfinals.
The Buckeyes are stacked with stars on both ends of the field. On offense, weapons like Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, Will Howard and Quinshon Judkins have uplifted Ohio State.
They also have tremendous playmakers on the defensive end, such as Caleb Downs and Jack Sawyer.
In their previous win over the Ducks, the offense produced 500 yards of total offense with an impressive 8.8 yards per play. They also held Oregon to rushing -23 yards, 3.9 yards per play and just 15 first-down conversions.
