After a wild few months on the recruiting trail, things have slowed down a bit for the USC Trojans, at least publicly, as the 2025 season has begun.
The Trojans will still evaluate a few positions for the 2026 class throughout the fall, but they will also be turning their focus to the 2027 class.
One of the priority recruits in that class is 4-star quarterback Peyton Houston.
Houston has been linked to the Trojans for quite some time, and Lincoln Riley set his sights on him being his 2027 QB, once he cooled a bit on Ryder Lyons, ultimately leading Lyons to commit to BYU.
Houston is set to announce his commitment on September 15. Where do the Trojans stand?
While the USC Trojans seemed like the team to beat for Houston, it appears that that has changed a bit. USC is absolutely still in play, but it now looks like Oklahoma is shooting up the board for Houston’s commitment.
“I could see the high standards they hold their players to,” Houston told Rivals. “The energy at practice was very upbeat, and it’s exciting to know that with the OU Soul Mission program, I’ll be supported both on and off the field… I saw how Coach Arbuckle tailors the offense to fit the QB’s strengths. I also got a chance to sit and recap my visit with Coach V. Overall, it was a fantastic visit, and I’m already looking forward to returning!”
Houston will be returning tomorrow when the Sooners host the Michigan Wolverines.
Oklahoma has always been a school that was in the running, but USC had pulled away during the spring after Houston took a visit in April. He visited Oklahoma in June, and now he will be there again this weekend. USC will be unable to get him to attend a game before he announces, as they are away next weekend playing Purdue.
Their next home game is on September 20 against Michigan State.
Don’t count out the hometown team in LSU. They are also pushing hard in his recruitment; however, they are heavily favored to land their current QB’s brother, Colton Nussmeier, who is also in the 2027 class.

While plenty can change, and even when he does announce his commitment, there will be over a year before the 2027 class reaches signing day; however, our friend and USC Trojans recruiting insider, Scott Schrader, is planning to put in a prediction for Oklahoma to land Houston.
It seems that the visits and proximity to home have begun to work in the favor of the Sooners.
If he does indeed commit, the question then turns to how solid the commitment of 2026 WR Boobie Feaster is.
Feaster and Houston are childhood friends and have dreamed of playing college ball together. It was never a guarantee, but there was real smoke that both players would ultimately end up at the same school.
Oklahoma has been pushing hard to get Feaster to take a fall visit and attend a game. Feaster and his father have shot down those rumors in the past, be we will keep an eye on whether Houston swaying towards Norman will have any effect on the 5th-ranked WR in the 2026 class.
For now, everything involving USC Trojans recruiting is still in a tremendous place. They also have 5-star QB Husan Longstreet, who demonstrated his talent during the 2nd half of last week’s game, and is the future of the program, followed by 4-star QB commit Jonas Williams in the 2026 class.
If Houston does commit elsewhere on the 15th, the Trojans’ future is still very bright at the quarterback position.
