USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers make it official with Reuben Foster
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

After two years away from football, Reuben Foster can embrace a new life.

The former Alabama linebacker is getting another chance at a professional career.

He has joined the United States Football League (USFL) as the Pittsburgh Maulers have officially signed him.

He became a member of the Maulers on Tuesday as the 28-year-old wants to return to what he loves. Foster was a force in college football for the University of Alabama from 2013 to 2016. As one of the most feared linebackers, he anchored a dominant 2016 defense for the Crimson Tide that destroyed opponents. As a former five-star from Auburn (Ala.) High School, Foster made first-team All-SEC,  won the Dick Butkus Award, and became a Unanimous All-American in 2016. He helped the Tide to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2015 and three straight Southeastern Conference Championships from 2014 to 2016.

He got selected at No. 31 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He spent time between San Francisco and Washington, but injuries and off-field issues forced him out of the league. Foster has been training for a return, and now he gets an opportunity.
