The Utes have grabbed another player in a key position with the commitment of JUCO safety Maurice "Rabbit" Evans who announced his decision in a post on X.
The three-star JUCO prospect out of Blinn College had offers from Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, and Georgia Southern but ultimately became the 12th commit and 3rd safety in the 2024 Utah class with his announcement.
Last year at Blinn College, Evans racked up 41 tackles with 1 broken-up pass and 1 fumble recovery, and at 6'2" 190 pounds, "Rabbit" is a towering presence in the defensive backfield.
With the recent news of beloved safety Cole Bishop declaring for the NFL Draft, Evans has a legitimate shot to slot right in and make an immediate impact.
Coming from a JUCO, Coach Whittingham and Coach Shah won't have a high school player to mold into a prototype Utah defensive back, but with 2 years of experience under his belt, Evans will provide the staff with much-needed experience. With two years of eligibility remaining, Maurice Evans still has plenty of time to make a name for himself wearing the red-and-black and potentially turn into the next Utah defensive back to make a name for himself at the pro level.
