The running back room for the University of Utah will look drastically different come next year. The Utes are losing Micah Bernard to the NFL and are four other backs via the portal which include Anthony Woods, Jaylon Glover, Dijon Stanley, and John Randle, Jr.
The latest move is redshirt freshman running back Mike Mitchell deciding to enter the transfer portal.
Mitchell was expected to be a key piece for the Utes carrying the ball, but his season was derailed as he suffered an ankle injury in the season-opener against Southern Utah.
For the year, he ended up with 158 rushing yards and one touchdown. Mitchell announced his decision to transfer on social media.
This move likely coincides with Utah earning a big commitment from the portal by as Washington State running back Wayshawn Parker is now a Ute. Parker is ranked as the No. 2 running back in this portal class, and all signs would point for him to start at the head of the running back room heading into the 2025 season.
Mitchell has not yet announced future plans, but the former three-star recruit out of Florida had 20 offers out of high school with the biggest ones coming from Washington State, Kentucky, Louisville, and Iowa State.
