This season has been full of unfortunate luck for the Utah Utes, especially at the quarterback position. Cameron Rising was expected to return triumphantly from a torn ACL, but another lower leg injury cost him the rest of the season. Now, backup quarterback Brandon Rose is also out for the rest of the year.

"Had some unfortunate news late yesterday - Brandon Rose is out for the season," Kyle Whittingham said on Tuesday. "He'll be unavailable with a lower leg injury that will require surgery, so that was disappointing... We just have to keep moving forward with a next guy up mentality."

Whittingham confirmed that Isaac Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the remainder of the year, with senior Luke Bottari serving as the backup.

Rose started the game against BYU last week and performed admirably, completing 12-21 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns in a narrow loss to the undefeated Cougars. The Utes hope he returns to full health next season.

"You learn a lot about yourself, about players, about coaches. I always say that adversity reveals character. We're having plenty of opportunity right now to reveal character," Whittingham said.

Wilson has thrown for 1,200 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. The freshman quarterback will prepare for another start this Saturday in a road game against Colorado.
