Washington football coach Jedd Fisch stated over the weekend that any player who enters the transfer portal but doesn't take a visit to other school can play in the Sun Bowl.

After announcing that he would be entering the portal last Thursday. junior edge rusher Lance Holtzclaw is the first public entree to announce a visit, ending the chance for a possible return to the Huskies.

Holtzclaw, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound reserve defender for UW this season, is visiting BYU on Wednesday.

A former three-star recruit who grew up in Massachusetts but played his high school football at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Arizona, Holtzclaw recorded 13 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks in three seasons at UW under former coach Kalen DeBoer (2022-23) and Fisch this past season.

Pro Football Focus credited Holtzclaw with 114 snaps for the Huskies this season over 12 games, up from 87 last year under then-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell.

Coming out of Desert Ridge in the 2022 recruiting class Holtzclaw did not receive an offer from the Cougars, though he did have an offers from Boise State, Boston College, Oregon State and Vanderbilt, all four of which hosted him for an official visit prior to his commitment to UW in July 2021.
