Ryan Williams and Alabama certainly haven’t forgotten the feeling of losing to Vanderbilt last fall.
The talented young wide receiver shared in a conversation with Barstool Sports’ Jon Gruden that the Crimson Tide would take care of the Commodores in 2025.
“We don’t call them ‘revenge games,'” Williams said. “We’re going to kill an ant with a sledgehammer this year. Every game that we fell short last year, we’ve definitely got red eyes going into (this year).”
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia has been on a media train of his own this offseason after leading the program to the historic victory. However during SEC Media Days on Monday, Pavia had the opportunity to directly address Williams’ comments and the senior opted to keep things short and respectful.
“Obviously he’s a great competitor,” Pavia said. “The kid is naturally talented, a gift from God, you know. I’ll be excited to play him in his home stadium.”
Pavia was a menace for Kane Wommack’s defense as he completed 16-of-20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns along with 20 carries for 56 yards helping lead the way for a 40-35 win.
Williams on the other hand was tame by his standards as he pulled in three passes for 82 yards and one touchdown for a Crimson Tide offense that had the ball for just under 18 minutes of play.
Alabama will likely have its own opportunity to discuss the upcoming matchup with Vanderbilt during its allotted time on Wednesday when it makes the trip to Atlanta for its session of SEC Media Days.
