Vikings to fly Michigan's Jim Harbaugh in for second interview, per report

Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh appears to be inching closer to a return to the NFL. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings plan to fly Harbaugh in to the team facility on Wednesday for an interview.

Harbaugh, 58, spoke to the Vikings in a virtual meeting over the weekend to gauge interest and the team was evidently pleased enough with the conversation to move forward in the interview process.

Harbaugh has been the head coach at Michigan since 2015 and the team has compiled a 49-22 record in his seven seasons leading the program. In 2021, the Wolverines earned their first ever spot in the College Football Playoff, but lost 34-11 to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl.

Prior to his time with the Wolverines, Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers for four seasons. The team went to the NFC Championship in each of his first three seasons and Super Bowl XLVII in his second season. The 49ers went 44-19-1 in his time with team.

Minnesota is on the hunt for a head coach after firing Mike Zimmer earlier in January. Zimmer was the Vikings' head coach for eight seasons and had a 72-56-1 record during his tenure with three trips to the postseason. The Vikings finished the 2021 season with an 8-9 record.
