Why UC Davis Will Win

The Aggies can help get Washington ready for what’s coming.

They might not have the manpower to pull this off, but they have the type of offense that could push the Huskies even more than Colorado State did.

Quarterback Caden Pinnick was terrific in the 31-24 win over Utah Tech - after the opener against Mercer got cancelled midway through, thanks to weather - and he’ll keep pushing the passing game throughout.

Washington showed a decent pass rush against the Rams, and it still wasn’t enough to breathe easily until late. So ….

What does Washington have to work on? Putting the game away.

Closing was a bit of an issue last season in Jedd Fisch’s first season. It didn’t do it against Wazzu. It didn’t do it in the close loss at Rutgers or in the bowl loss to Louisville.

It did come through in the fourth quarter against Colorado State, but in this, it would be nice if the Huskies could put away a team early.

What do the Huskies REALLY have to work on? More than anything else, they have to get back into the We’re Good At Football mindset.

Of course there’s been a big rebuild over the last year-plus after Kalen DeBoer left - that is going GREAT, by the way - but now it’s time to start winning easily. That means Washington needs to take a team like this and put it away in two drives.

It won’t be that clean, but there won’t be a problem.
