Watch: LSU WR records incredible one-handed catch in spring game

"Wide Receiver U" is back in session.

College football spring games are, more than anything, a litmus test for where players and units stand heading into the summer. In that regard, LSU's wide receiver room looks no less formidable this season than in years past.

Senior wide receiver Kyren Lacy scored a 70-yard touchdown on the first official play of the game when he secured a one-handed catch and then rumbled his way into the endzone.

Lacy transferred to LSU before the 2022 season and had 24 receptions for 268 yards last year. In 2020 and 2021, he played in the Sun Belt for Louisiana-Lafayette.

QB Jayden Daniels was in total control when in the game, going 10-of-11 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Earlier, in a red zone portion of the scrimmage, he connected with Malik Nabers on a lovely back-corner throw.

Second-year LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke during the game about the concerted effort on offense to push the ball downfield more often.

"We've got talented guys," said Kelly. He added that it's the coaching staff's job to get his receivers open while stressing the importance of keeping them happy.

Last season, star receiver Kayshon Boutte was visibly frustrated with his lack of touches. On Dec. 28, he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft after first saying on Dec. 5 that he would be returning to LSU.

It sounds like Kelly won't let the same problems surface this year. With Nabers, Lacy and a more comfortable QB, he has the personnel to air the ball out more consistently in 2023.

LSU's history at the receiver position is second to none. NFL greats including Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson all got their starts in Baton Rouge.

Nabers and Lacy have a long way to go to get to that level, but they should have plenty of opportunities this season to get there.
