The Virginia Tech Hokies began their football season with a convincing 45-24 win over the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Sophomore quarterback Quincy Patterson II threw for 2 touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Hokies to the win. Running back Khalil Herbert covered 104 yards on just 6 rushing attempts and found the end zone one time. Tight end James Mitchell had 68 yards receiving and a touchdown. The Virginia Tech defense was impressive with 6 sacks and 2 interceptions against the Wolfpack.
