Colorado head coach Deion Sanders held his Spring press conference on Monday and delivered an insightful update on the Buffaloes' progress heading into the 2025 season.

Sanders touched on a wide range of topics, from the development of new players and coaches to the quarterback battle and overall team chemistry with two major leaders going to the NFL.

One of the highlights of was Coach Prime's praise for the additions to his coaching staff and how they’re already making an impact. He specifically talked about the arrival of Marshall Faulk and his leadership elevating the running back room. Sanders noted that the Hall-of-Famer's influence goes beyond just on-field skills—his knowledge of financial literacy and professionalism is invaluable to the players’ development.

“Marshall don't need no money,” Sanders joked, underscoring that he joined the program simply to take a step in the coaching realm.

Sanders also spoke highly of defensive line coach Warren Sapp, saying he’s now settled into his role and is getting the best out of his players. On offense, coach Prime was particularly pleased with the receiver room, calling them "feisty" and competitive.

A significant point made by many in the media is the quarterback competition between Julian Lewis and Kaidon Salter. Sanders made it clear that no starter had been named yet, with both quarterbacks competing fiercely. He emphasized that leadership is one of the most critical attributes they are evaluating.

“The standard is the standard,” he reiterated multiple times, indicating that regardless of who steps up, they expect a leader who can command the offense and rally teammates without needing to huddle—especially in a fast-paced college football environment.

When asked how he’s adjusting to coaching without his sons, Shilo and Shedeur, Coach Prime admitted he now has to wear only one hat. While he misses coaching them, he's also fully invested in the entire team and views many of the young men as family.

On the flip side, Sanders was asked how his sons are preparing for the NFL Draft, highlighting their resilience amidst criticism and negativity. This comes at a time when Shedeur has slid down several mock draft boards and Shilo is fighting for attention after being skipped over for the NFL Combine.

“We've already won,” Coach Prime confidently stated, pointing out that they’ve overcome long odds coming from a private school and an HBCU to reach this point.

Sanders announced Colorado's Spring Game on April 19 will be nationally televised on ESPN2. The third straight year the Buffs will featured the offseason event to a wide audience. Less than a week before the NFL Draft kicks off from Green Bay.

Sanders also stressed the importance of retaining key coaching figures, notably defensive coordinator Robert Livingston and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. He revealed that Livingston was a top priority to keep with NFL interest, noting how highly sought after he was across the coaching landscape.
