Where Have Georgia Tech's Outgoing Transfers Landed?
USA TODAY Sports

It has been a wild transfer portal season.

The portal opened at the beginning of December and closed this past week. Georgia Tech was one of many teams that brought in guys via the portal, but they also saw guys leave.

Let's take a look at where some of these players ended up.

DE Kyle Kennard- South Carolina

In the twelve games of his junior season, Kennard totaled 54 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one interception, and six sacks. Per PFF, he played 534 snaps and had a solid 71.6 overall grade. As the team leader in sacks the team in sacks, he provided consistent pressure off the edge and showed major progression from his sophomore campaign.

His game against South Carolina State in the second week of the 2023 season was especially dominant. Kennard had an interception, forced a fumble, and recovered another all in the same game, for which he earned ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

He committed to the Gamecocks in December.

QB Zach Gibson- Georgia State

Gibson is going to be staying in Atlanta to play for Georgia State. Coincidentally, Georgia Tech and Georgia State play next season on August 31st, the first home game of the year for the Yellow Jackets. Gibson's brother Tyler announced last night that he is going to be transferring from Georgia Tech to Charlotte.

From our very own Rohan Roman:

"In his time at Georgia Tech, Gibson played in six games, starting three after former starter Jeff Sims went down with an injury. He threw for 589 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions on a 54.8% completion percentage. The highlight of his tenure at Tech came against No. 13 North Carolina, where he completed 72.2% of his passes for 184 yards and led the GT offense to a massive upset win. He also played well against Georgia, posting a season-high 191 yards on a 54.2% completion percentage as the Jackets played an excellent first half of offense before faltering against the eventual national champions.

Gibson was a part of the competition for the starting QB spot against Haynes King and Zach Pyron but ultimately lost out to King. He did not appear in a game during the 2023 season."

OL Elias Cloy- Alabama A&M

Cloy was a freshman offensive lineman who entered the portal in December. He chose to transfer to Alabama A&M.

Cloy was a talented freshman coming out of Alpharetta High School and was a part of the 2023 recruiting class for the Yellow Jackets.

From his bio at Georgia Tech Athletics:

OL Tyler Gibson- Charlotte

Gibson is going to be playing for the Charlotte 49ers and head coach Biff Pogi next season. The 49ers are coming off of a 3-9 season in Pogi's debut season and he has been doing a lot of work in the transfer portal in hopes of rebuilding that program.

According to PFF, Gibson played 56 snaps this season. He got playing time as a true freshman in 2022 when Brent Key took over as the interim coach but did not see the field much in 2023. He was a three-star offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247Sports.

Gibson is brothers with former Georgia Tech quarterback Zach Gibson, who opted to enter the portal as well.

WR- Juju Lewis- FIU

During his two years at Tech, Lewis did not suit up for the team. He arrived at Tech as a three-star recruit coming off a remarkable high school career at Western High School in Davie, Florida. During his senior season, he earned Sun Sentinel All-Broward first-team recognition for accumulating 1,260 yards and 14 touchdowns on 77 receptions.

He will enter the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

CB- Kenan Johnson- Utah

Johnson finished the year with 29 tackles, three pass deflections, and one interception. He was the highest-graded player on the Georgia Tech defense according to PFF (Pro Football Focus), finishing with a 75.4 grade on 521 snaps.
