With this morning’s announcement of which players will be attending the upcoming ACC Football Media Event, there are a few interesting observations. Here is a closer look at a few of them:
The skinny: The starting quarterback has yet to be named, so in an odd twist, the Golden Bears are bringing both finalists to Charlotte. Both are also incoming transfers, but with much different resumes. Devin Brown arrives from Ohio State with three years of collegiate experience under his belt, while Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is a true freshman who signed with Oregon in December before transferring to Cal in January.
The skinny: Transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been the loudest Seminole during the off-season so it only makes sense that he has the opportunity to speak to the press, who will be hoping and praying that he delivers more click-bait material.
The skinny: Considering Gio Lopez transferred to North Carolina from South Alabama on April 17th, which means he didn’t participate during spring practice, it didn’t take him very long to be considered a team leader. Having the starting quarterback there is standard, but usually they are with the team longer than 2.5 months.
The skinny: Aside from the others already mentioned above, several other transfer quarterbacks will be in Charlotte. These are Carson Beck (Miami/Georgia), Chandler Morris (Virginia/North Texas), Miller Moss (Louisville/USC), Rickie Collins (Syracuse/LSU) and Darian Mensah (Duke/Tulane).
The skinny: With all of the talk of quarterbacks, it is also important to note the schools that aren’t bringing one to Charlotte: Stanford, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Boston College. The only one of these that is surprising is Pittsburgh, who brings back Eli Holstein as their starter after he passed for 2,228 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024.
The skinny: The Tigers are bringing an All-American team to Charlotte. Quarterback Cade Klubnik and defensive linemen TJ Parker Jr. and Peter Woods are on most preseason All-American teams, while wide receiver Antonio Williams has the potential to join them.
