College football season is less than three months away, and quarterback battles are at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
On this week’s episode of The Dynasty: A Podcast on the Alabama Crimson Tide, former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron explained why he believes Ty Simpson is the guy at QB for the Crimson Tide in 2025.
“I think it’s his job to lose, not only from an experience standpoint,” McCarron said. “I think he has a ton of talent. I’ve worked with Ty, have trained with him in the past even when he was a young pup coming out of high school. I think he has a ton of arm talent. He can make every throw on the field. I think he’s very underrated using his feet as well, being able to escape the pocket when he needs to or throw into zone-read when you lull the defense to sleep and they’re thinking you’re handing it off to Jam Miller, and all of a sudden you pull it and bust around the edge. He has plenty of enough talent to go out there, win this job and keep it.”
McCarron pointed out Florida State is a tricky opponent to open the season with because of the mystery that surrounds the team. Alabama will be the first team to find out if Florida State has recovered from its 2024 meltdown, but McCarron said it’s a great challenge for Simpson and the offense to go down to Tallahassee and play in front of a tough crowd.
Regardless of the outcome, Alabama will have two games and a bye week before its week five matchup with Georgia. The Crimson Tide will host ULM and Wisconsin before hitting a bye week, but when the road matchup against Georgia arrives, McCarron believes the quarterback job will be solidified after the game.
