Wisconsin Announces Decision On Luke Fickell's Contract

Things might not have gone exactly to plan for Luke Fickell over his first few seasons in Madison, but that's not stopping the Wisconsin Badgers from reportedly committing to him long-term.

On Wednesday, the school announced that it has extended Fickell's contract through 2032 — further adding to the seven-year agreement he signed and raising his salary this season to $7.7 million.

The Badgers also reportedly approved extensions for volleyball coach Kelly Sheffield, women's soccer coach Paula Wilkins and men's soccer coach Neil Jones — whose deals were all extended to 2030.

According to the contract Fickell originally signed back in 2022, an annual one-year extension requires "satisfactory" performance as determined by UW's athletic director and the university's Athletic Board.

That's certainly up for debate considering the hype Fickell arrived with and the 13-13 record that's followed — including a 5-7 mark in 2024 with no bowl game appearance.

But that seems to be the business Wisconsin is in after handing out six one-year extensions to their coaches last year which was headlined by head men's basketball coach Greg Gard.

Hopefully Fickell is able to get things going in the right direction soon in Camp Randall. Because prior to his arrival, the Badgers had been one of the most consistent CFB programs in the nation under Bret Bielema, Gary Andersen and Paul Chryst.
