The Wisconsin Badgers brought in a talented defensive back through the transfer portal who could lock-in a starting role for the upcoming season.

D’Yoni Hill, a former Miami Hurricanes defensive back, transferred into the Wisconsin program after considering where to spend his final year of eligibility. Hill has made two stops already in his career, but has proven himself to be both a capable man coverage corner and a very solid tackler for the position. Hill is also an agile defender who rarely finds himself in the wrong position while dropping back into coverage.

The cornerback is now on his final stop in Madison, and has been fighting to solidify a starting role for himself.

Wisconsin Badgers Need to Fill Starting Cornerback Position, Could Utilize D’Yoni Hill

Previously in the week, cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes did not feel comfortable naming the full starting slate for his room. Haynes provided Ricardo Hallman, the super senior team captain, but did not name a starter outside of Hallman.

The two players who have arguably been battling the hardest for a spot are Hill and Omilio Agard, who was with the program last year. Agard has looked exceptional throughout camp and has continued to impress since the announcement regarding Nyzier Fourqurean was made. Hill, on the other hand, has time and experience as his hands as this is the fourth preseason that the cornerback has gone through.

Hill began his career as a three-star signee with Marshall as part of the 2022 and spent two seasons with the program before transferring the Miami (FL). Hill recorded 55 tackles, ten pass defenses, one forced fumble, and one interception in his lone season as a starter for the team. This past season, Hill recorded 33 tackles and a pass defense for the Miami Hurricanes before announcing he would again enter the transfer portal.

While Agard might be younger and may have put together a better camp than Hill, the veteran cornerback has put his best form out on display this past week. In addition to practicing well and possessing experience, Hill has also established himself as a great tackler on the field already which could be what pushes the needle in the battle between the two. Wisconsin needs someone to play along the boundary and having one of the stronger tacklers in the secondary in that position would be a good decision.

Regardless of who earns the starting spot, Hill and Agard will both be featured in the secondary due to the versatility the cornerback duo provides. Agard is a hair smaller but physically plays like someone much taller and is not afraid to utilize his body on the field. Hill, on the other hand, also sacrifices his body but comes with experience as a blitzing defensive back after his lone season with the Hurricanes.
