Wisconsin Football: 2026 Badgers Commitment One of Four Visiting Major SEC School

The Wisconsin football staff had once made visiting opposing schools after a commitment a big no-no, but now might change course.

Carmelow Reed, a 2026 commitment for the Wisconsin Badgers, recently announced a visit to Ole Miss. Reed has been committed to Wisconsin for well over a month now but booked an official visit with the Rebels ahead of a scheduled Madison trip. Despite announcing a new visit, Reed has not backed out of his commitment with Wisconsin, and still plans on joining the program in the future.

However, not everyone is convinced Reed will land in Madison after visiting another program and new commitments to the defensive line room could shake things up.

Previously, Wisconsin frowned upon committed recruits taking visits to other schools, but might begin to make exceptions in an effort to funnel more talent into the school. Recruits enjoy having freedom throughout the recruiting process even after delivering a verbal commitment.

Perhaps allowing Reed and other recruits to visit different programs could be a move Wisconsin believes will be beneficial. Many other big programs allow higher-level recruits to visit other programs despite holding a commitment to ensure the commitment is solid.

As coach Luke Fickell previously stated, the Badgers want plays who ‘want to be here’ and will not waste time on people who do not buy into the ideology of the program. If the Wisconsin football staff were to lose Reed to Ole Miss, it likely would be business as usual in Madison given the current mindset.

Wisconsin Football Commitment Carmelow Reed Visiting Ole Miss Alongside Three Other Committed Recruits

While becoming a committed player could mean a closure in the recruiting process for some, Wisconsin football commitment Carmelow Reed plans on taking the process day-by-day.

Reed previously committed to Wisconsin early in April, and has held a strong commitment to the Badgers since. However, the talented defender has also kept his recruitment open with plenty of schools continue to push for the recruit. One such program has been Ole Miss, who successfully booked a visit with both Reed and three other committed recruits.

Emanuel Tucker (Mississippi State), Carson Sneed (Tennessee), and JaMichael Garrett (Auburn) are all also in attendance this weekend. Garrett is considered to be the most notable flip target as the four-star linebacker has developed a close relationship with the staff recently.

Garrett, Sneed, Tucker, and Reed could all potentially flip commitments to Ole Miss, but that is a risk that big recruiting programs are willing to take. As mentioned, Wisconsin has predominantly become a program that seeks out the shutdown of the recruiting process once a recruit is committed.

However, that style of recruiting is outdated and no longer suits the current recruiting environment. Players want to be able to fully experience the process as many only want to endure the process once, and an early hard commitment can often dampen the excitement of some.
