Wisconsin Football Loses In-State Talent to Transfer Portal

Madison, WI - Only a third of the 2023 Wisconsin football recruiting class remains in Madison after the latest transfer portal news. The most recent Badger seemingly confirming their intent to seek opportunities elsewhere is the 10th of 15 commits in their class from two offseasons ago to depart.

The relationship between the current UW football staff and the '23 class was always going to be tenuous. Most of those athletes were initially recruited during the Paul Chryst regime. After Luke Fickell was hired on November 27th, 2022, high school seniors had little time to get acquainted with the newly minted head coach ahead of the early signing period that began December 21st.

The latest departure from that transition class once came in as a promising in-state prospect but never found his footing under the now-fired offensive coordinator Phil Longo.

Wisconsin Football RB/WR Nate White to Enter Transfer Portal

According to a report from 247Sports' Evan Flood, Nate White plans to enter the transfer portal. White seemingly confirmed the news by reposting Flood's report on X.

The redshirt freshman could not crack the playing rotation in two years with the Badgers. Initially brought in as a running back, the Rufus King (Milwaukee) standout fell further down the depth chart when position coach Devon Spalding brought three running backs to Madison in the 2024 recruiting class.

As the offensive staff attempted to take advantage of the former track athlete's speed, White moved positions to wide receiver during UW's fall camp. Despite his once-promising potential, the former three/four-star recruit did not see game action with the Badgers.

White is the tenth Wisconsin football player to announce their intent to enter the transfer portal this offseason. To keep up with the latest news, bookmark our Transfer Portal Tracker.
