Wisconsin RB Chez Mellusi done for season with leg injury

The Wisconsin football team has won five in a row heading into Saturday afternoon's home game against Northwestern, but the Badgers will have to go the rest of the year without their leading rusher.

Per Jesse Temple of The Athletic, Badgers running back Chez Mellusi is out for the rest of the season after sustaining a left leg injury during the team's 52-3 win over Rutgers last week. According to Temple, Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst didn't specify what the injury was, but he noted that the junior wouldn't return in time for spring practices.

"That obviously saddens all of us," Chryst said, per Temple. "There’s nothing more important, and why guys do this is to be able to play in these games. ... I thought he gave a ton to this team, certainly in production, but a lot of other areas. And so sad about that. He’s competitive, and he’ll come back on it."

Mellusi transferred to the University of Wisconsin this year after playing two seasons for Clemson. In nine games this season, Mellusi recorded 173 rushing attempts for 815 yards and five touchdowns and had seven receptions for 66 yards.

Mellusi currently ranks second in the Big Ten in rushing attempts and fifth in rushing yards.
