After 13 years, Mumbai Indians win opening match in IPL as Rohit and Rickelton shine with bat

Mumbai Indians defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets in their opening match of the Indian Premier League 2026. Ryan Rickelton (81 off 43) and Rohit Sharma (78 off 38) were unstoppable for the five-time champions in a run chase of 221. Mumbai reached the target in 19.1 overs. The two added 148 runs for the first wicket at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians have won their opening match of the season after 13 years. 

Earlier, Kolkata also batted well and posted a big total. Ajinkya Rahane (67 off 40), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (51 off 29), Finn Allen (37 off 17) and Rinku Singh (33 off 21) were the main contributors. For Mumbai, Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets.
