There’s a famous song line: “Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho, kya gham hai jisko chhupa rahe ho?” (Why are you smiling so much, what sorrow are you hiding?)

And honestly, this line seems to perfectly fit Sanjiv Goenka right now. The same Goenka who was known for coming down heavily on players after just one loss is now seen smiling even after LSG keeps losing matches.

The loss against Rajasthan was Lucknow Super Giants’ fourth consecutive defeat this IPL. But even after that, Sanjiv Goenka was seen comforting captain Rishabh Pant after the match. And that raises a question—why?

Is this an attempt to change his image? Because earlier, he was often portrayed like a “villain.” Maybe this is a way to whitewash that perception?

Even on social media, people are saying the same thing—that behind this smile, Goenka is trying to hide his pain. One user wrote:
“Right now I feel bad for Sanjiv Goenka. He’s not even able to show his real emotions and is hiding all his pain behind this wide smile.”

And honestly, why wouldn’t he feel hurt? Think about it—when we go to a restaurant and the food is even slightly too spicy, we get annoyed at the waiter, even though we know he didn’t cook it.

So imagine a person who reportedly spent over ₹7000 crore to buy a franchise, and then invested crores more in players—doesn’t he have the right to show a little aggression?

Of course, one could argue that you shouldn’t shout at players publicly on the ground. But at the same time, everyone has their own nature.

And now, if it really feels like Sanjiv Goenka is hiding his pain behind a smile, then what must be going on in his mind… we probably can’t even imagine.

Anyway, do you agree with this take? Let us know in the comment box.
