Kolkata Knight Riders secured a tense four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Wednesday and are still in with a chance for IPL 2026 playoffs. But their win was marred by an injury concern to young batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

KKR assistant coach Shane Watson later revealed that Raghuvanshi was experiencing pain in his neck, dizziness and headaches after he had a massive collision with teammate Varun Chakravarthy while attempting a catch during the Mumbai Indians’ innings.

The incident occurred during the 11th over when Tilak Varma mistimed a high catch. Raghuvanshi sprinted to his right to take the catch while Chakravarthy was moving towards it and collided with each other. Chakravarthy dropped the catch.

Raghuvanshi appeared uncomfortable straight after the collision and left the field. Tejasvi Singh Dahiya replaced him as KKR’s concussion substitute, while Raghuvanshi did not bat during the chase.

Shane Watson Gives Worrying Injury Update

After the match Shane Watson expressed concern over Raghuvanshi’s health.

Watson said:

"Ankrish unfortunately ran a long way to be able to try and get that catch. And unfortunately the collision that he had with Varun Chakravarthy meant that he ended up having some neck pain, a bit of dizziness and a bit of a headache within a couple of overs of that as well."

He Further stated :

"So, unfortunately, he wasn't able to finish off the game. And I know how desperate he was as well. He's someone who is as tough a competitor as I've ever met. So we certainly missed him from a batting perspective."

This could turn into a significant worry for KKR since Raghuvanshi has been one of the team's more consistent batsmen in their run for the playoffs.

Watson also updated on Varun Chakravarthy revealing that the spinner has been playing through pain in the current tournament.

Watson added:

"I'm not exactly sure of where he is on his rehab journey at the moment. All I do know is he's obviously playing through a bit of pain at the moment, which just shows how brave he is, how much he wants to be here to be able to contribute to KKR,"

KKR Stay Alive in Playoff Race

Despite the setback KKR successfully chased the target set by Mumbai Indians to secure a crucial win.

After being put in to bat, Mumbai managed to score 147/8 with Corbin Bosch hitting an unbeaten 32 to provide a crucial impetus at the end.

In response KKR chased down the target in the 18.5th over with Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell chipping in with vital contributions.

It was KKR's sixth win in their past seven games and they are still well within the hunt for the IPL 2026 playoffs having won six games lost six with one no result, from 13 matches so far.
