It was a bad day at office for Mumbai Indians as they were beaten by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. MI scored a colossal 243/5 on a flat Wankhede pitch and failed to defend the same. SRH completed the chase in just 18.4 overs.

Ryan Rickelton's unbeaten 123 had given Mumbai a firm footing in the match but half centuries from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen made sure Hyderabad reached the target comfortably. This was MI's 6th loss in 8 matches and they have only 4 points from as many matches.

What MI Need to Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs?

The Mumbai Indians face an uphill task but their chances of qualifying for the IPL 2026 playoffs still remain. They have six matches left to play and the road is pretty straightforward though difficult.

Winning all six matches will take MI to 16 points from 14 matches and a place in the playoffs is almost certain for them, looking at the past records. But doing it is certainly easier said than done as the batting and bowling departments have been inconsistent throughout.

What Happens if MI Lose Again?

It will all get a little bit tricky if they lose yet another game, if that happens then they will end with a total of 14 points, 14 points may not be good enough to seal qualification and so much will then rest on the results of others and on their Net Run Rate.

However, should they lose two or more games then the Mumbai Indians will be knocked out of the playoffs' race mathematically, meaning all games now become a must-win game for Mumbai Indians.

The pressure is well and truly on the shoulders of the Mumbai Indians now and given the big players in their squad they will surely be looking to kick things into gear.
