India bowling coach Morne Morkel has explained the reason why Arshdeep Singh doesn’t play regularly for the team in T20Is. The left-arm seamer has taken over 100 wickets and is the most successful bowler of India, but the team management continues to bench him. Harshit Rana has been preferred over the senior seamer in recent times.

However, Arshdeep has performed in every match he has been part of in the shortest format of the game. He played just two of seven games in the Asia Cup 2025.

“Arshdeep knows that we have a bigger picture in mind. There is a need to try out different combinations. He knows that he is a world-class bowler and takes most wickets for us in the powerplay. He is valuable to the team, but we are looking at other combinations against Australia,’ Morne Morkel said.

Arshdeep, who was not a part of the Playing XI in the first T20Is, dismissed three batters in the third contest and was named the Player of the Match.

“It is not easy. There will always be disappointment in terms of selection. We keep on telling them to work hard and be ready when the opportunity comes. There are limited games left before the World Cup, and it is important for us to see how the players react to different situations,” he added.

Morkel justified the changes in the team. “You need to check all your options. Every team is experimenting. This game needs adaptability. You need to know players who can give you options in different roles.”

Arshdeep has been giving his best and will be one of the bowlers to watch out for in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
