Asia Cup 2025 has already kicked off on Tuesday, September 9. The eight-team tournament will be played across two venues: the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai and the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. India and Pakistan are slotted in Group A of Asia Cup 2025.

India are the defending champions, having won eight of the 17 installments of the continental event. This edition of the Asia Cup is the third time (after 2016 and 2022) that it is being played in the 20-over mode. The Men in Blue and Pakistan are scheduled to face each other in the league phase on Sunday, September 14.

Asia Cup 2025: 3 IND records PAK won’t be able to break this year

3. Most matches won

India have won 44 matches in the Asia Cup up until now. As many as 35 of their victories have come in the ODI format, while nine have been attained in the 20-over format. On the other hand, Pakistan have won 33 in total (28 in ODIs and five in T20Is).

Even if India lose all of the potential matches to Pakistan this year and the latter lose no game in tournament, their overall win tally would be 40. This would include three wins in the league phase, three in the Super Fours and one in the final.

2. Most titles won

India have won eight Asia Cup titles, as mentioned previously. They won the opening iteration of the tournament in 1984. The tournaments played in 1988, 1990/91 and 1995 were also won by India, increasing their count to four. They next won the title in 2010 and then won back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2018 before their most-recent one in 2023.

In contrast, Pakistan have won the Asia Cup only two times. Both their wins came a long time from each other: 2000 and 2012. They had won against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh by 39 runs and two runs, respectively. It will take Pakistan a minimum of seven seasons to surpass India's title count (assuming Pakistan win all seven of the next Asia Cup seasons including the current one).

1. Most final appearances

India have appeared in the summit clash of the Asia Cup as many as 10 times. Eight of their appearances have been on the winning side while they have ended as runners-up twice (1997 and 2004), losing to Sri Lanka on both of the occasions at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Other than the two seasons Pakistan came out on top, they have come out second best three times (1986, 2014 and 2022). With India's tally of making it to the final of the Asia Cup twice as much as that of Pakistan, it will definitely take them a lot more time to reach anywhere close to their arch-rivals.
