Abhishek Sharma maintained his scorching form in the Asia Cup, smashing 75 runs off just 37 balls against Bangladesh in the Super Fours’ fourth match. Fans gathered to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 24, eager for some high-octane cricket, and Abhishek did not disappoint with his electrifying innings.
The Punjab batter struck six fours and five sixes, racing to 75 in just 11 overs and looking on course for the first century of this Asia Cup edition. His innings, however, came to an end in the 12th over thanks to a brilliant piece of fielding by Rishad Hossain at backward point. Suryakumar Yadav had guided the first ball of the 12th over from Mustafizur Rahman towards the left of backward point.
Rishad anticipated perfectly, dived to prevent a certain boundary, and controlled the ball on his first attempt. He then hurled a precise throw to the non-striker’s end, allowing Mustafizur to complete the run-out as Abhishek failed to make it back to his crease after being called by his captain. Former wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised Abhishek Sharma for yet another match-winning performance as India defeated Bangladesh by 41 runs to secure a spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Batting first, India posted a strong total of 168/6, with explosive opener Abhishek Sharma giving the team a blazing start.
The left-hander notched his second consecutive half-century, prompting Karthik to remark that Abhishek was batting on a completely different level. Speaking to Cricbuzz after the match, he said:
“He is just turning out to be a very strong opener. Somebody who is very trustworthy at this point of time. The fact that he is able to get runs on different pitches. He is very resilient and able to adapt to different conditions. To be fair, he is batting on a different celestial plane altogether.”
