The Asia Cup 2025 got over nearly a month ago, but the winning Indian team is yet to get the trophy. India won the final against Pakistan on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai, but the trophy has not been formally presented as yet. With passing days, new updates keep coming in about its whereabouts.
As per recent reports, the trophy was shifted from the ACC office and locked in an abandoned site in Abu Dhabi by ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The news has generated new controversy and leaves the handover of the trophy to India in doubt.
India Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is said to be in regular contact with the ACC, trying to get the trophy back and have it awarded to the Indian team accordingly.
The controversy surrounding the Asia Cup trophy began when the Indian team declined to accept the trophy directly from the ACC Chairman during the post-match presentation ceremony in Dubai. The refusal reportedly stemmed from Naqvi’s dual role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, which the Indian contingent considered inappropriate for an official Asian Cricket Council event. Following the incident, Naqvi allegedly took possession of the trophy and secured it in his Dubai office.

Efforts to resolve the matter have since been complicated by Naqvi’s reported demands. He has insisted on a formal ceremony where India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav would personally receive the trophy from him. The BCCI, however, has rejected these conditions, maintaining that the trophy and medals should be sent directly to the ACC headquarters for an official and neutral handover.
The case took a further turn after Naqvi supposedly complained to members of the ICC that he was made to appear like a joke on the Asia Cup stage when Indian players refused to come closer to him for the presentation. The BCCI has subsequently warned Naqvi against filing formal complaints or politicizing the matter any further.
At the same time, India's on-field performance is the standout of the tournament. The Men in Blue won the title of Asia Cup 2025 by beating Pakistan in the final on September 28 in Dubai. India dominated the tournament throughout, winning every game while being on a winning streak and beating their long-time rivals three times in the process of securing the title.
