A massive security scare had occurred in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, on an IPL 2026 fixture between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, as around 240 feeds of CCTV cameras were switched off on the match day. This created serious issues concerning security, in one of the most high-traffic cricket venues in India.

Despite a large security threat, the match progressed without any incidents, and all arrangements were made to keep a watch through alternative and backup systems. The authorities confirmed that surveillance through real-time monitoring was established, soon after the problem was detected.

This news comes, as RCB are away playing against Delhi Capitals, and while they will be playing an away game, their home venue is facing this newest issue regarding the security in a cricket stadium on match day during IPL 2026.

What Happened Inside the stadium?

As per the police, two employees of IVS Digital Solutions, identified as Manjunath E and Abdul Kalam, are responsible for this incident. It is reported that the pair entered the server room without proper security checks or prior permission. They used a non-active access card to get through security, after which they cut the NVR and fiber lines leading to the non-functioning of 240 camera feeds.

The areas the cameras were in covered, most of the entrance and concourse areas, along with other parts of the stadium. Important locations of the venue include the D Corporate Stand, along with all outer areas of the cricket stadium. It is important to remember that due to all the locations of cameras being non-functional, they covered many important zones of the venue. The authorities, however, made sure to arrange all necessary alternate systems, to keep surveillance.

Investigation Underway, More Concerns Raised

The Cubbon Park police have registered a case at their station. They have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances and motive behind the breach.

This is not the first reported incident in the Chinnaswamy stadium this season. A few days ago the police had caught a ticket black-marketing racket in the same stadium.

A canteen worker by the name Chandrashekhar was arrested in that incident, after about 100 match tickets were seized from him which was allegedly being sold at inflated prices during the RCB Vs LSG match. With such close successive incidents it raises serious questions regarding the stadium's management and security.

Although the latest incident did not directly have an effect on the match, it has revealed potential loopholes in the system and now officials are expected to implement new rules to prevent the repetition of the same.
