Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have taken drastic and strategic steps to alter their team by the IPL 2026 auction on December 16. The franchise has kept a strong core captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is the very reason and support for the team, and it is made even stronger by MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, and the high-profile acquisition of Sanju Samson through a big trade to join the batting order before the auction.

On the flip side, these are the expected changes in the roster. In a shocking and unexpected scene, CSK gave away the match-winner, Ravindra Jadeja, along with the all-rounder Sam Curran, in a trade with the Rajasthan Royals.

Moreover, the franchise released the key overseas players like the fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana and the New Zealand batting duo of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. This is indeed a clear signal from CSK that they want to change the squad dynamics and, perhaps, fit a new style.

CSK is lucky in the sense that these drastic changes have made them ready for the bidding fight. The five-time IPL winners will have more than ₹43.40 crore in their account when they enter the auction. The management would be able to aim at the top-class reinforcements of their choice since there are still nine players that need to be hired.

The team’s first step will be to find the replacements for the foreign players that have been released, and at the same time, it will be through the bowling department that CSK will be looking to build a strong team for the 2026 season that would compete for the title.
